The Pub will be filled with guitar riffs and rock fans when on March 28 Kim’s Comeback, No Such Noise, Everything Ever and Hold Your Own are set to kick off “Live in the Pub,” a free concert organized by the Arts Management Association (AMA).
Will Gallagher, sophomore arts administration major and AMA member, spearheaded this event because he understands how bands constantly want to perform.
“As a musician I know smaller-level bands are always looking for shows to play,” he said. “The area around Rider has a ton of great smaller bands.”
Gallagher started out not looking for a particular genre of music, but he knew he wanted something everyone could hear on any of today’s rock radio stations.
He said he wanted something that was “a little edgy, but also radio friendly.” All the bands fall in the alternative rock field, but none are too harsh for the average listener.
Two of the bands, Everything Ever, from Staten Island, N.Y., and No Such Noise, from Sicklerville, N.J., are friends with Gallagher and have worked with him in the past.
Hold Your Own, from Voorhees, N.J., decided to perform at Rider because of their friendship with the band No Such Noise.
“We always hear good things about colleges anyway,” said Hold Your Own drummer, Steve Iannettoni. “Hopefully they will like it, dance, and listen to us on their own time after.”
From Bethlehem, Pa., Kim’s Comeback vocalist and guitarist, Tyler Fernandez, is a current student at Westminster Choir College.
“I ran into a couple Rider students who work with bands and shows at Rider and outside of the school as well,” he said. “The show at Rider should be a lot of fun and we’re hoping you all come out to see what we’re about.”
Kim’s Comeback has been making its way around local colleges and universities and getting positive reactions.
“We’ve been playing a ton of college shows throughout the tri-state area and have gotten a lot of great feedback and some big turnouts,” said Fernandez.
Gallagher believes the student population will respond well to the bands he has booked.
“The genre these bands play is pretty popular right now,” Gallagher said. “I think these bands are similar to ones that kids on campus are already listening to.”
In the past, the AMA has put on monthly acoustic coffeehouse performances, a comedy night, and a karaoke night, amongst other events, to promote all forms of
art on campus. Future projects of the AMA will include producing B-Sides, a play by sophomore arts administration major Kevin Daniels, as well as the annual ArtBeast festival.
Gallagher hopes that students will have a good time at this event.
“It’s something to do on a Friday night that you don’t need to leave campus for,” he said. “I also hope that students will end up becoming fans of these bands, because they’re all great and deserve it.”
“Live at the Pub” is a free event, 18 to enter, 21 to drink with I.D. A Rider student must sign in all non-Rider students and only one non-Rider student can accompany each current Rider student.
Doors open at 9 p.m. and the concert starts at 9:15 p.m. with Hold Your Own, No Such Noise at 10 p.m., Everything Ever at 10:45 p.m., and concludes with Kim’s Comeback at 11:30 p.m.
