Creating a unique combination of sounds and tunes, two separate projects come together to form a Split EP. With only four tracks total, Winnebago Vacation and Schmave put their identities on the respective tracks. It’s a lo-fi and indie combination made to unwind any listener, even just a bit.

The EP starts out with Winnebago Vacation’s two tracks. Both are really laidback kind of tracks, with really easy-listening features. The first of the two, “Stand Back” has light sounds and breezy vocals. “Stand Back” gives the listener overall sense of peace and calmness. Lyrics like, “hold me right, by your side/ don’t stand back” are comforting to listen to and even give the listener and impression of a hug. The second track, “C U” is a good pivot to a more upbeat track with the same laidback and relaxing vibes.

Schmave takes over for the second half of the EP, with the track “Amber Tiles” as the first of the two. The track has an interesting dynamic, with a slightly uptempo beat while maintaining a mellow and cool lo-fi sound. Listeners get a sense of dizzy time passing, as if they’re zoning out with the singer “lying facedown on these amber tiles.” There’s a real apathetic vibe to the track, particularly with the lyric “why don’t you separate the grass from the greener side of things.” It’s as if it doesn’t matter if the grass is greener on the other side, because in the end it’s all still grass. The final track, “In the Gut,” is a bit more midtempo and still maintains the mellow themes within its core sound. It features cool instrumentals and an interesting baseline to create another cool lo-fi sounding track.

Overall, the Split EP was a really interesting listen. The mellow vibes of both artists create a unique lo-fi and indie combination for listeners. Each had a chance to make their mark with two tracks and successfully chose two that are unique enough to differentiate themselves while also blending together well.
